The Benefits of Implant Supported Bridges
Protects Your Oral Health
Just like traditional bridges, implant supported bridges prevent issues like teeth shifting after tooth loss, and help you eat, chew, and speak naturally. But they also help protect your jaw bone, since your dental implant stimulates the underlying jaw bone. Traditional implants don’t have this benefit.
Long-Lasting Results
If you care for your new smile properly, you can expect your results to last for 30+ years, or even the rest of your life. Dental implants last an extremely long time, making implant-supported bridges a fantastic long-term investment.
Keeps The Nearby Teeth Healthy
One drawback of traditional bridges is that they require you to trim two of your healthy teeth, which support the crowns and bridge. This is not necessary for implant bridges. Since the bridge attaches to two implants, your healthy teeth can remain intact, and don’t need to be trimmed.
The Implant Supported Bridge Process
Implant Placement Surgery
Implant Placement Surgery
After you’ve been approved for treatment, you’ll come in for an appointment with your dentist. They will numb and clean your mouth, then create two small incisions in the gums and jaw bone, where your implants will be surgically placed into the jaw bone. After they place the implants, they will sanitize and suture the area, then send you home to recover. Depending on your case, you may also have a temporary resin bridge attached to your new implants.
Healing & Building Your Bridge
Healing & Building Your Bridge
Your dentist will send you home with a set of recovery instructions to follow. Initial healing takes 1-2 weeks, but it will take somewhere between 3-6 months for your implants to permanently bond with your jaw. You’ll come back to our office for a few follow-ups during this time, so that your dentist can check your healing and begin designing your permanent bridge.
Final Bridge Placement
Final Bridge Placement
After your mouth is fully healed and your bridge is ready, you’ll come back to our office for a final appointment. Your dentist will remove your temporary bridge, if present, and then check the fit of your permanent bridge. If everything looks good, they will permanently attach it to your implants. Then, you can go home and enjoy your brand-new, picture-perfect smile.

No. While dental insurance may cover part of the cost of traditional bridges, it does not typically cover dental implants of any kind, including implant supported bridges. If you are not sure about your coverage, you should consult with your policy and your insurer.
If you have a healthy jaw bone and mouth but are missing several teeth in a row, implant supported bridges may be right for you. They're usually used if you’re missing 3+ teeth in a row. If you’re only missing 2 teeth, 2 single-tooth implants are typically a better option for restoring your smile.
For the most part, you can care for your new bridge just like you would care for your natural teeth. You can continue to brush and floss normally. However, you will also need to floss and brush below the implant bridge. This helps remove bacteria, food, and plaque that could cause irritation or even gum infections. You also will need to come into our office every six months for a checkup and teeth cleaning.
